Actually, let's back up to last night. Charley desperately wanted to "go Memaw's house" so Joseph and I planned a date night with baby Liza in tow. Around 4 in the afternoon, Memaw called to say Charley was extremely listless and had a fever. We changed our plans, packed up, and spent the night at Memaw's house. Liza decided to wake up just about every hour of the wee hours and could never settle anywhere (we tried the recliner, rocking chair, Jojos bed, Charley's bed...) Then at 5:30 am this morning I heard Charley tell Papaw "play!"
Oh Lord! We got up (having to be up early...well not that early...for an 8 o'clock doctors appointment) and watched tv and played. Then packed up and headed for the doctor.
Yay...bilateral ear infections and a throat infection (!?)...
We tried to eat breakfast. Everyone had a pleasant meal except for me and Liza. She was SO tired and would not sleep in my arms at the restaurant. It has seriously been the only time in her life she's cried in public. I took her to the car, fed and burped her, then put her to sleep. By the time we got back inside, I had to get my food to go since we were taking Memaw to an appointment and had run out of time. :(
We then came home and by this time, Charley was mega-super-grumpzilla-dog-tired. She asked for her pillow and to watch Duck Tales and fell asleep on the couch. (I have only seen her fall asleep on the couch one other time in her life!) I thought, yeeeesss, a nap for all three of us! Ummm, for about 30 minutes. The next two hours consisted of one baby waking the other sleeping baby up with wails of grief :(
All the time I was fighting back tears myself, Joseph was at the home improvement store getting parts/tools/stuff to fix our clogged kitchen sink. (And essentially clogged main line).
I won't bore you with under the sink lingo, but I will say that 1) Papaw Joe can fix anything with anything, 2) when I get grumpy-I get GRUUUUUMPY :(, 3) while Joseph is handy, he should have called the plumber.
I was so aggrevated today that I just needed to get out. Liza and I went to Target to get some last minute Easter gifts, and don't you know the day you have gross bed hair, day old makeup, and sweats on is the day you see old students and co-workers. ::sigh::
Finally Liza is sleeping in my arms, the drain is unclogged and all plumbing is working as it should be, Charley has started her antibiotics and won't be contagious to her cousins at Easter, and it's almost bed time.
Am I a horrible mom for looking forward to that?
Most days are excellent. Some days are a challenge. And then some days are just hard has crap to get through.
Hugs and love to the moms (and dads!) who struggle though the hard as crap days and do so much more effortlessly and graceful than I.
