Another need was communication. His mother would go crazy not hearing from him for an entire month. When he was in Haiti for a week in March he didn't have access to a phone nor was able to use the Internet so we never knew if he made it safely or not. Thankfully he did, and this time, we wanted to be more prepared since he will be there a significantly longer time.
There was also the need for a wheelchair for a little boy who he met during his first trip. But where do you get a wheelchair? And how do you do it at the last minute. And how do you get it on the plane?
I'll tell you how. You pray. And you wait. And you see what God can do.
This past weekend Jarred went to Lubbock to have a little reunion with the group he travelled with during his first trip to Haiti. Today he came home. And let me tell you, this boy is blessed by a greeeeeeat God!
A family he served with just happens to own a successful dairy farm and had just happened to get a new iPhone 4. Since he wasn't using his old iPhone 3, he gave it to Jarred for the trip and is paying for the service for Jarred to call home and be able to use his Google phone number to accept texts for free. In Haiti. AWESOME.
Also, they have used frequent flyer miles from their personal stash to upgrade Jarred from flying coach to first/business class. Why you ask??? So he can check three bags up to 70 pounds each and carry all the loot he can with him to Haiti.
Oh, and the loot! Our entire family spent the evening popping pills and prescription medications that were donated to Jarred and consolidating them into a smaller quantity of bottles to save space and pack more. The people of the fishing village of Montrouis will be so blessed by the prenatal vitamins, blood pressure medicine, prilosec, tylenol, advil, and soooooooooooooooooo much more!!!! Also donated by people he served with previously were shoes, toys, coloring books, medical scrubs, medical supplies of all sorts, and so much more.
The big medical mess! What a blessing this medicine will be to Dr. Kerry and Jarred as they serve. |
Best part. Jarred came home with a wheelchair. Brand. Spanking. NEW! Wooohoooo!
If you saw the pictures of these amazing people you would be jumping for joy at the work God will do too!
So to contribute to the cause, I made some headbands for the family that Jarred will be serving along side. They have seven children, most of them adopted, and the most recent addition, a small Haitian girl whom they will stay in Haiti for another two years for. (She can't leave the country for two years).
A little something to make them feel special...
Terrible picture quality, as it was taken from my phone. Couldn't contain my excitement and had to use the first camera I saw. The tiny pink one is my favorite! |
Colorful headbands in a jumble! |
And that is all guys. I just had to tell you the greatness that is happening and show you what more good will come! And now that Jarred has an iPhone he can use in Haiti, he can text us pictures and maybe some of those will pop up here from time to time so you all can see what he is doing.
Peace and blessings to all!
